The project
At Foster + Partners, the Transport and Infrastructure team developed a competition pitch for the design of Schiphol Airport's new Pier A terminal in Amsterdam. Drawing inspiration from Airfix model plane kits, the team adopted a highly creative approach, using 3D printing to produce a modular kit-of-parts as a scale model of the proposed terminal design.
My role
As Senior Graphic Designer, I was tasked with designing bespoke packaging to house the model kit. The packaging had to achieve two key objectives: first, to effectively communicate the visual identity of the project through branding, rendered illustrations, and technical schematics; and second, to convey the architectural team’s rationale behind the innovative modular design. I collaborated closely with the studio’s print production team to develop the flat ‘box net’ design, utilising state-of-the-art flatbed printing technology to produce high-quality, custom graphics for the packaging.
